Hickory Grove Baptist Church was established in 1911 about six miles southeast of Kilgore, Texas. Originally called the Missionary Baptist Church of Christ and meeting under a brush arbor, the congregation bought land and built a building in 1912. In 1930 the name was changed to Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
In 1936 the first Sunday School was organized and the Lord's Supper was first observed. In 1974 classrooms were added to the side and front, and in 1991 this structure was relocated across the street from the present facilities. In 1992 the present sanctuary building was built seating 170 people. In 2002 an education wing was added, consisting of a fellowship hall, kitchen, nurseries, classrooms, offices, restrooms, and storage areas. Then in 2010 a new student building was built with a gym/multi-purpose room, classrooms, offices, worship spaces, restrooms, and storage facilities. In 2022 the old sanctuary was donated and moved to be used as an event venue.
For over 100 years Hickory Grove has faithfully served Jesus and shared Him with people as He commanded. The congregation has always been mission minded, giving financially and personally to foreign, national, and local projects. In 2011 Hickory Grove was recognized with a Texas Heritage plaque for its 100 years of service.
